It started with an idea that came out of a duck blind conversation near the Lacassine Wildlife Refuge and some local sugar cane fields. Since Louisiana is the birthplace of sugar cane farming in the new world, is the home of the biggest Mardi Gras party in America, has some of the greatest (and spiciest) food on earth and a place where our fiercely loyal citizens live every day to the fullest, we wondered why isn’t someone creating a home-grown, high-quality Louisiana rum?The next thing we knew, Louisiana Spirits was born.We decided to build a great, authentic Louisiana Rum and do it in a way that will support our state and our unique culture. Our 18,000 square foot distilling facility will feature a gallery celebrating the state’s historic role as a sugar cane producer and rum distiller, a 109 year-old farmhouse (the first home built in Iowa, Louisiana) that has been saved and relocated to our site, a gift shop and more. All on 22.77 naturally-set acres, complete with ponds, cypress trees and a sugar cane field.
