Famiglia Cotarella Cotarella Le Macioche Brunello di Montalcino
Cotarella Le Macioche Brunello Red Wine has an intense ruby red color. On the nose the wine shows complexity, with aromas of ripe red fruit, species, and aromatic herbs. Nice, earthy savoriness with dried strawberry, orange and licorice, showing some depth and complexity. Firm, but polished, with a ripe and juicy berry fruit profile and a long, savory finish. On the palate the wine has excellent depth and sapidity. The wine is surprisingly fresh with notes of ginger and dried flowers. The tannins are exceptionally balanced which make the wine silky yet slightly vibrant as only Sangiovese can. The finish is lengthy suggesting great aging potential. Loamy clay, plum, and cherry flavors are the highlights of this firm, slightly rigid red wine, with red fruit accents of cherry and strawberry seeping in as this winds down on the long finish. Elements of tobacco and spice add depth. The 2017 vintage received 90 points from Wine Spectator in the June 2022 issue and the 2018 vintage received 94 points from James Suckling in the July 2022 issue. Pair this Sangiovese red wine with pizza, pasta of all sorts, or a creamy mushroom risotto. Grown in Montalcino, Italy these grapes are grown on 25 year old vines and the wine is aged 30 months in oval casks and an additional year in a bottle before bottle release.
